After two games to forget, Pacific got the bad taste out of its mouth Sunday afternoon with a 19-9 victory over Willamette at Chuck Bafaro Stadium in Forest Grove.
Shut out for the first four innings, the Boxers bats exploded with 18 runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 18-2 lead.
Pacific took advantage of three errors in the frame.
CJ Colyer hit a two-run homer, his 12th of the season, and doubled to left field to drive in two more runs. With the bases loaded,
Jake Gallagher cleared the bases with a double to center field.Â
Dawson Tokishi went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs, two RBIs, a walk and two stolen bases.
Ty Yukumoto finished 3-for-6 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.
Walker Matthews was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
Miles Bergman went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs.Â
The Boxers had 15 hits.Â
Vincent Lagatta (1-1) earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings in relief.Â
Pacific improved to 16-9 overall and 5-6 in the Northwest Conference win the victory.Â
Willamette won both games on Saturday, taking game one 23-6 and game two 15-2.Â
Game 1
Pacific scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and took a 6-5 lead on an RBI single to center field by
Matt Gibbs.Â
However, the Bearcats answered with two runs in the top of the fifth, one in the sixth, two in the seventh, four in the eighth and then nine in the ninth to blow the game wide open.Â
Willamette finished with 19 hits. The Boxers had three costly errors.Â
Game 2
The Bearcats jumped on Pacific early in game two, scoring six runs in the top of the second inning.
Willamette recorded 15 more hits in the game.Â
Colyer homered to center field in the loss.Â
Next, the Boxers host Corban on Wednesday at 5 pm and then return to NWC play Saturday at George Fox.Â
