Gibbs grand slam lifts Pacific to doubleheader sweep of Bethany Lutheran

Pacific picked up two more wins against Bethany Lutheran Friday afternoon, defeating the Vikings 6-4 and 9-3 at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.

Game 1

Leading 2-1, the Boxers added four insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pacific would need them as Bethany Lutheran answered with three runs in the top of the seventh.

On the mound, Chance Wallace improved to 3-0 on the season, holding the Vikings to three hits and one run and recording four strikeouts through four innings.

At the plate, Jake Gallagher was 2-for-2 with a run. Jack Rhea was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Dawson Tokishi added a pinch hit single, driving in two runs in the sixth inning.

Game 2

Trailing 3-1, Pacific's offense exploded with three runs in the bottom of fifth inning and five more in the sixth.

Ty Yukumoto was 1-for-3 with two runs, including a solo home run in the fifth inning. Matt Gibbs was 3-for-3 with a walk, including a grand slam in the sixth inning.

Bethany Lutheran decided to intentionally walk CJ Colyer, who was 2-for-3 with two runs, to load the bases for Gibbs.

"You want to intentionally walk CJ to get to me, I'm going to make you pay," Gibbs said. "The first pitch curveball, I was out in front of it, but I knew they were going to come back fastball, so I just sat on it. It was pretty sick. I think I knew it was gone off the bat."

Davis Koester pitched one scoreless inning to earn the win for the Boxers. Colyer threw two scoreless innings to record the save.

Next, Pacific closes the four-game series against Bethany Lutheran Saturday at noon.
