Boxers topple George Fox, to play Whitman for NWC Championship

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- For the first time in program history, Pacific will play for the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Championship.

The No. 3 seed Boxers advanced to the finals Saturday afternoon with a thrilling 5-4 victory over No. 2 George Fox.

Tied 4-4, the match came down to No. 5 singles, where after dropping the first set 2-6, Pacific freshman Mia Yamaguchi stormed back to defeat George Fox junior Ari Rader 7-5 and 6-0.

Yamaguchi had fallen to Rader in three sets just a week earlier at George Fox in a match the Bruins won 6-3.

Pacific junior Sofia Mazzola defeated Elizabeth Cook 6-2, 6-4 at 3 singles.

Pacific junior Cassidy Binder, the 2024 Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, swept Kalli Wiker 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

Senior Sydnie Binder edged Riley Bobkiewicz 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 to remain undefeated at 2 singles.

Cassidy and Sydnie Binder also teamed up to defeat Bobkiewicz and Cassey Hitch 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Next, the Boxers will take on No. 1 Whitman on Sunday at noon. The Blues, a perfect 7-0 in the NWC this spring, shut out Whitworth 5-0 in the semifinals.
