WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Pacific earned its first Northwest Conference road win of the season Saturday, defeating Whitman 3-1.
Sophomore outside hitter Emma Velcheck shined in the victory, finishing with a career-high 25 kills.
Senior
Mara Murphy had 14 kills, three aces and 16 digs. Senior
Victoria Patnaude recorded six blocks. Senior
Danica Nelson added 29 digs and two aces. Sophomore
Rorie Frias finished with 31 assists.
Down 15-5, the Boxers rallied to win a marathon first set 28-26. Pacific did not take its first lead until 24-23 on a Murphy ace. Tied at 26-26, the Boxers won the set on back-to-back kills by
Kayla Craft and Velchek.
After Pacific won the second set 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead, Whitman responded with a 25-19 victory in the third to extend the match.
Trailing 24-23 in the fourth set, the Boxers went on a 3-0 run to finish off the Blues 26-24. Velcheck recorded back-to-back kills for the final two points.
Next: Pacific hosts Warner Pacific on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match.
