Boxers start strong at UW Preview

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Pacific track and field team opened up the indoor competition season by sending two athletes up to the University of Washington to race at the UW Preview.

Ally Hammond started the day off hot in the 60-meter hurdles, running a time of 9.11 seconds and qualifying for the finals later in the day.

Next, Kamron Shields got out of the blocks quick in the 400m, finishing in an impressive time, but unfortunately was disqualified for a cut in violation. This was followed by Hammond competing in the finals of the hurdle race, finishing 7th overall with a time of 8.94. The pair capped off the day with Hammond racing the 200 in a time of 25.43, finishing 7th overall and setting a new personal record, which lowers her existing school record in the event.

"I am happy with the season opener for Kam and Ally." said head track and field coach Ryan Huntersimms. "This sets the tone to how we want indoors to go. I am excited to see the rest of the team open up next week!"
