New-look Boxers tip off 2025-26 season with loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

A hot-shooting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps squad spoiled the Pacific men's basketball team's season opener Friday night, handing the Boxers a 95-61 loss inside the Stoller Center.

Pacific battled early with the reigning Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament champions, knocking down three 3-pointers to stay within 17-13 with 12:33 remaining in the first half.

But the Stags shot nearly 69 percent from the field in the first half to build a commanding 55-29 advantage at the break and never looked back.

The Boxers shot just 33.8 percent and were outscored 44-16 in the paint.

Pacific junior Anthony Hrboka led the Boxers with 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers, while junior Ryder Mackay added 11 points and three rebounds. Senior Lucas Gray scored nine points, all from beyond the arc.

Freshman Jaren Brown added nine points, three rebounds and two assists in his first college action.

Next: Pacific travels to California to play at University of Redlands on Friday, Nov. 14.
