Boxers score season-high 11 runs to complete sweep at Pacific Lutheran

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Pacific baseball team brought out the brooms and the bats. The Boxers had their most productive offensive game of the season on Monday to finish off a three-game series sweep at Pacific Lutheran. 

In a makeup game previously scheduled for Sunday, the Boxers took advantage of four Pacific Lutheran errors to win game three 11-4.

Pacific had five extra-base hits in the Northwest Conference victory, which included three doubles and two triples.

Trailing 3-2, the Boxers scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to take control of the game. 

Sophomore first baseman Benjamin Lewis was 4-for-6 with two doubles, three runs and an RBI. 

Freshman Nicholas Saelens earned the win on the mound, holding the Lutes to three runs over six innings. He allowed eight hits and recorded five strikeouts.

SATURDAY

Game 1

Governor Aufranc delivered a pitching gem to lead the Boxers to an 8-2 win in game one. The junior held the Lutes to one run over seven innings. He allowed seven hits and recorded seven strikeouts in his first victory of the season.

Pacific took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Jack Rhea and Trevor Kazahaya scored on an RBI single by freshman Nathaniel Chapman.

The Boxers added five more runs in the fifth inning.

Kazahaya was 3-for-3 with two walks, one run and one RBI. Vincent Lagatta went 2-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs.

Game 2

Pacific edged the Lutes 4-3 in game two to win its second straight Northwest Conference series.

Pitching in relief, sophomore Isiah Hirsh shut out Pacific Lutheran over three innings to earn the win. He allowed just one hit and recorded four strikeouts.

Hunter Edwards pitched a perfect ninth inning to record the save. 

Tied 3-3, Lewis scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice by Rhea.

Riz Collado was 3-for-4 with two doubles in the win.

After starting the season 0-9, the Boxers have won five of their last six games and improved to 5-4 in the NWC with the series sweep.

Next: Pacific begins a three-game series at home against Whitworth on Saturday, March 29 at 5 p.m.
