Sparked by its pitching, the Pacific softball team swept George Fox Saturday to split the Northwest Conference series.
Peyton Davis thew a complete game shut out in game one to lead the Boxers to a 1-0 victory. The freshman allowed five hits over seven innings.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning,
Chloe Knepp doubled to center field. Pinch runner
Alyssa Mateo then scored the winning run on a
Kimberly Ray double to left field.
The victory snapped a 15-game losing streak to George Fox, dating back to 2021. But the Boxers weren't finished, winning game two 8-3.
Pacific scored two runs in the bottom of the first and six more in the second to run away with the victory.Â
Kiara Baba pitched all seven innings, holding the Bruins to five hits and three runs.Â
Ray went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Rylie Kihara and
Faith Lawson also had two hits in the win.
The Boxers improved to 5-7 in the NWC with the two wins.
FRIDAY
Game 1
Pacific opened the four-game series Friday with an 11-2 loss in game one.
George Fox took advantage of six Boxer errors.Â
Knepp and
Kayla Kodani each doubled in the loss.Â
Game 2
The Bruins jumped on Pacific early to take game two 9-1. George Fox scored four runs in the top of the second and three more in the third.
Kodani and Kihara each hit a double in the loss.
Addie MacPherson was 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
Next: The Boxers host Linfield next Saturday and Sunday in Forest Grove.
