WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Pacific baseball team cranked out 26 hits and scored 22 runs to sweep Whitman Saturday.
After winning game one 11-8, the Boxers took the second game 11-6 to clinch the Northwest Conference series.
Game 1
Tied 6-6, Pacific scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to take control of the game.
The Boxers took the lead on an RBI double by
Matt Gibbs, scoring
Javin Hamura and
Davis Koester.
Hamura was 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs and an RBI. Koester went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI.
Hunter Nishina was 3-for-6 with a stolen base and RBI.
Trevor Kazahaya,
Matthew Pavao and
Nathaniel Chapman also had multiple hits in the victory.
Pitching in relief,
William Merriott shut out the Blues over 1 2/3 innings to earn the win.
Hunter Edwards recorded the final five outs to capture his second save of the season.
Game 2
Pacific carried the momentum into game two by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
After Whitman scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to get within 4-3, the Boxers answered with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Benjamin Lewis was 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
On the mound,
Chance Wallace earned his second win of the season, allowing six hits and four runs in five innings.
SUNDAY
Pacific got off to another fast start in the final game. But the Boxers could not complete the series sweep, falling 9-8 in 10 innings.
Pacific scored four runs in the top of the second. Gibbs led off the frame with a solo home run to right field. Hamura added an RBI double.
Whitman tied the game at 6-6 with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Boxers led 8-7 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. But Whitman homered to left field to send the game into extra innings.
With two outs in the 10th, the Blues hit another home run to walk-off with the victory.
Next: Pacific hosts Puget Sound on April 12-13 in Forest Grove.
