Boxers shut out Linfield to win conference opener

The Pacific men's soccer team opened Northwest Conference play in winning fashion Friday night, edging Linfield 1-0 at Hanson Stadium behind a second-half strike from senior Adam Landy.

After a tightly contested first half that saw both teams generate scoring chances, the Boxers broke through in the 56th minute. Landy collected a pass from Noah Gosch and buried the go-ahead goal, his first of the season, to put Pacific in front.

From there, the Boxers' defense and freshman goalkeeper Kobi Miyamoto ensured the lead held. Miyamoto recorded six saves on the night to secure his second shutout of the season, turning away several late efforts by the Wildcats.

Pacific outshot Linfield 11-7 and matched the visitors with seven corner kicks apiece. The match grew physical in the second half, with both sides combining for four yellow cards.

Next: Pacific will continue its conference schedule on Sunday when the Boxers host George Fox at 2:30 p.m. at Hanson Stadium.
