SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific baseball team could not slow down Whitworth's red-hot lineup, as the Pirates erupted for 38 runs in a Northwest Conference doubleheader sweep on Saturday.
Game 1: Whitworth 15, Pacific 6
Pacific closed within a run in the seventh inning, scoring three times to trim the deficit to 7-6. Whitworth quickly answered, however, plating three runs in the bottom of the inning before adding five more in the eighth to pull away.
Max Finkelstein went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Hunter Nishina also finished 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run, while Will Shelor added a 2-for-5 performance with an RBI single.
The Boxers collected 10 hits but stranded nine runners on base in the loss.
Game 2: Whitworth 23, Pacific 11
Pacific came out strong in the second game, jumping to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Whitworth responded with eight runs in the bottom half of the frame and never trailed again, adding five runs in the third and eight more in the fifth.
Despite a season-high 17 hits, the Boxers left 10 runners on base.
Javin Hamura led Pacific at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. Trevor Kazahaya added three hits, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and a run.
With the losses, Pacific fell to 3-8 in Northwest Conference play.
