The Pacific softball team split a doubleheader with Willamette on Sunday in two tightly contested games at Sherman/Larkins Stadium.
Game 1: Pacific 6, Willamette 5
No-hit through three innings, the Pacific offense erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth. After Chloe Knepp recorded the Boxers' first hit with a single to center field, Caitlyn Gieser added a pinch-hit RBI single for Pacific's first run of the game.
Samantha Madsen drove in two more runs with a pinch-hit RBI single to left field. Kayla Kodani added an RBI triple and then scored on an RBI single by Jordan Ingram.
Tied 5-5 entering the bottom of the seventh, Libby Hardee singled and later scored the game-winning run on a walk-off double to center field by Knepp.
Pitching in relief, Karlie Espinoza earned the win, holding the Bearcats to three hits and two runs over 3 2/3 innings.
Game 2: Willamette 2, Pacific 1
Knepp homered to left field in the bottom of the seventh to bring the Boxers within a run, but the rally ended there.
Kiara Baba pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs. But Pacific managed just three hits in the loss. Kodani went 1-for-2 with a walk and a double, while Hardee finished 1-for-3 with a double.
