Boxers rally in Game 1, cruise in Game 2 to sweep George Fox

NEWBERG – Behind a two-run ninth inning, the Pacific baseball team rallied to defeat George Fox 6-5 in Game 1. The Boxers then carried the momentum into Game 2, winning 10-2 to sweep the Northwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday.

With the two wins, Pacific improved to 11-12 in conference play.

Game 1: Pacific 6, George Fox 5

Hunter Nishina led off the top of the ninth with a double down the left field line and then scored the tying run on an RBI double to right field by Benjamin Lewis.

Lewis then scored the go-ahead run on an infield single by Alex Laureano.

Trent Nagamine pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

Laureano finished 3-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Lewis was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Will Shelor went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs.

Game 2: Pacific 10, George Fox 2

Jake Gallagher hit a grand slam in the top of the third inning, which was plenty of run support for Nicholas Saelens, who tossed his third complete game of the season, allowing just five hits and two unearned runs over nine innings.

Trevor Kazahaya also homered in the third inning as the Boxers scored six runs in the frame. Pacific added two runs in the fifth and two more in the ninth.

Shelor went 4-for-6 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Aukai Arruda was 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI.

Next: The Boxers conclude the three-game series at George Fox and wrap up conference play on Sunday at noon.
