Making his final start on the mound, senior Matt Palmateer gave the Pacific baseball team five strong innings, finishing with a career-high seven strikeouts.
The Boxer offense then heated up late, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and two more in the eighth to defeat Whittier, 7-3, in Game 2 of Friday's Senior Day doubleheader.
After Palmateer allowed just two hits and one earned run through five innings, freshman Max Feierstein took over, holding the Poets to three hits and one run over the final four innings to earn the win.
At the plate, junior Will Shelor went 2-for-4 with a walk and scored three runs. Senior Miles Bergman went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run.
In his first at-bat of the season, sophomore Nicholas Saelens delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the first to score Shelor and give the Boxers an early 1-0 lead.
Saelens then added an RBI sacrifice fly to score Benjamin Lewis in the sixth inning.
Shelor scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch. Hunter Nishina then drove in Bergman with an RBI single to center field to give Pacific a 4-3 lead.
Game 1: Whittier 9, Pacific 6
After celebrating their 10 seniors, the Boxers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
However, the Poets answered with three runs in the second and three more in the fifth to take the lead for good.
Pacific senior Riz Collado went 3-for-5 with a run. Senior Zachary Soran was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI double.
