The Pacific University baseball posted a 4-1 win over Willamette and 2-0 win over Puget Sound on Saturday in non-conference action to open up the home portion of its 2019 schedule. The Boxers, who are on a three-game winning streak, are now 5-3 on the season.
Â
Pacific had back-to-back double-digit hit efforts and solid starting pitching in both games.
In game one, senior pitcher
Casey Brown (pictured)Â went the distance for the complete game, holding the Bearcats to just five hits and striking out eight. Four-different Boxers had multiple hits including three from
Jordan Hara, who paced the offense.
Â
A bases loaded walk to
Dustin Meyer put Pacific ahead 1-0 in the second inning. Then, a sacrifice fly by the Bearcats in the fourth tied the game at 1. Then, Pacific regained the lead with a three run fifith inning. In the inning, Pacific got a pair of RBI singles by
Chase Anderson and
Jacob Igawa. The three runs were ample support for Brown, who kept the Bearcats nearly off the bases for the remainder of the contest.
Â
In game two, the bats remained hot for the Boxers but the runs did not come until the eighth inning. With the game scoreless in the eighth, a one-out pinch hit single by
Makoa Nakamura got things started. Then, a RBI double by
Dylan Morgan brought in pinch runner by
Brandon Silowka from second. Back-to-back passed balls by the Loggers' reliever scored the second run of the inning.
Â
Tyler Oscarson, who came in relief of
Trevor Quinn in the eighth, pitched two innings of scoreless relief for his third win of the season. Quinn, like game one starter Brown, limited the opponents to five hits. Hara had three more hits and Morgan also had three as the Boxers had 13 hits in the nightcap.
Â
Pacific will close out the weekend with a 5 p.m. matchup on Sunday against Lewis & Clark in a non-conference at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
