Boxers Fall to Portland State in Season-Opening Competition

The Boxer men's tennis team opened up spring competition for Pacific athletics on Tuesday morning as they took on a NCAA Division I opponent in Portland State and while the Boxers put together a strong effort to open the season they suffered a 7-0 loss.

Action started off with doubles competition and the Boxers snagged their only match win of the day going 1-2 in the three doubles matches. The duo of Rayden Murata and Koby Murata picked up a 6-4 win, while Reyn Miyagawa and Joey Hu suffered a tough 6-4 loss and Sean Murphy and Quentin Gonzalez fell 6-2 in doubles action.

In singles action, Murphy had the strongest showing battling his opponent but fell 7-5, 7-5. All five other Boxers who competed in doubles action also has a singles match but all were unable to take a set against Portland State.

"I thought this was a great tune-up for the men coming off a year hiatus from competition. We were not at our best but Portland State is the best team we'll see all season. Overall I'm happy with how everyone performed and showed up to compete. I'm looking forward to see the guys back on the match court in a few weeks against PLU. Shout out to Sean Murphy for his performance against a very tough competitor at PSU.  Another shout out to the Murata's. They came out firing on all cylinders in doubles and pulled out a great win in doubles," said Head Coach, Pete Yellico about his teams performance in the season opening competition.

Boxers will embark on Northwest Conference play for their next competition which is slated for Saturday, March 6th at Pacific Lutheran.
