Boxers Coast to Win in Schumann Classic

Pacific's defense controls Northwest Indian College in the victory.

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- Pacific Men's Basketball opened the Ken Schumann Classic on Friday with a 124-80 victory over Northwest Indian College.
 
The Boxers cruised to the 44-point victory behind 52% shooting from the floor. From the free throw stripe, the Boxers shot 71% while the visitors from Bellingham shot 43%.
 
Top Performers
  • Isaiah Africano had an efficient from the floor shooting 8-11 on his way to a team-high 18 points. He also led the team with six rebounds on the night.
  • Lucas Winkler was able to hand out 8 assists with a couple nifty passes while attacking in the lane.
  • Dimitri Cohen was perfect from behind the arc going 3-for-3 on his way to 15 points.
 
How It Happened
 
The game opened with a 13-7 run by the Eagles of Northwest Indian College who opened the game converting their first five shots from the floor. The Boxers responded going on a 11-5 run to tie the game at 18. The score was 29-28 with 10:40 remaining in the first half when the Boxers began to use their defense to create offense as they opened up a 69-38 first half lead. The defense was responsible for 26 first half points that came off of turnovers.
 
The second half was much of the same with the Boxers creating multiple turnovers and converting on the offensive end. The Eagles were able to dwindle the 31-point halftime lead down to 23 midway through the second half. Pacific however was not going to let them ruin their large lead as they pulled away to the 44-point win.

  • Pacific was responsible for a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio recording 19 assists in the contest.
  • The Boxers used their high-speed style of play perfectly tallying 81 points in the paint.
