Pacific Closes California Trip with Victory Over Whittier

Boxers take win back to California after convincing win on the road

WHITTIER, Calif.- Pacific men's basketball will return to Forest Grove with a victory after its 98-76 win over Whittier on Saturday night.

The Boxers were firing on all cylinders as they shot 53.5% in the contest and over 60% in the second half. Pacific made its presence felt on the defensive end by forcing 17 turnovers while holding the Poets under 40% shooting.

Top Performers
  • Lucas Winkler provided a sparkling performance from the point guard position with a season-high 23 points and team-high 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. He also dished out a game-high eight assists.
  • Truman Young buried four three-pointers to eclipse the 20-point mark for the third time this season.
  • Jacob Bolger notched a season-high 19 points on 9-of-17 shooting and pulled down five boards.

How It Happened

Pacific enjoyed a solid first half behind Winkler's excellent offensive display. The point guard tallied 13 points, handed out four assists, and grabbed four rebounds in the opening 20 minutes. Bolger put together a great half as well, connecting on four of his six attempts from the floor to give himself eight points.

The Poets managed to hang around despite the Boxers' great start as Pacific took a 38-37 lead into the locker room.

The two teams would trade baskets to start the second half as Winkler finished off a driving layup and Ethan Chung followed with a pull-up jumper. Bolger reached double digits with a scoop layup and Young nailed his third three-pointer of the night as Pacific finally created some separation, opening up an 11-point lead at the 14:26 mark.

Back-to-back layups from Antoine Stitt and Winkler followed by a Young jump shot made it a 16-point advantage just under the 10-minute mark. Pacific cruised the rest of the way and earned the 98-76 win on the road.
