Boxers Head Into Holiday Break With Win Over McMurry

Boxers use efficient night behind the arc on the way to the victory.

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University Men's Basketball team started their holiday break with a 111-102 win over McMurry University Wednesday night inside the Stoller Center.

The Boxers were able to pull away with victory following a stellar shooting night from long range shooting 48%. Truman Young was the driving force behind the offensive success with a team high 20 points on 5-8 shooting behind the arc.

Top Performers
  • Truman Young scored 20 points off the bench for the Boxers.
  • Lucas Winkler led the team with seven rebounds while also dishing out 11 assists in the victory.
  • Isaiah Africano had a perfect night from the line going 3-3 on his way to 15 points.

How It Happened
The Visitors from Abilene, Texas jumped out to the early 6-2 lead before the Boxers were able to go on a 16-5 scoring run capped off by a Jacob Bolger layup. Pacific was able to stretch the lead to 10 midway through the first half on a three pointer from Dimitri Cohen set up by an assist from Winkler. The host Boxers put the pedal to the metal closing out the half using another scoring run to take a 60-48 lead into the locker room.

The red and black seemed as though they were going to put the game away for good opening up a 21-point lead over the first 6 minutes of the second half. The visitors who earned a one-point win at NWC rival George Fox last night had other plans. McMurry was able to put up a 28-13 scoring run together over a seven-minute stretch to pull within five points with 1:10 remaining in the game. That would be as close as they would get as Pacific put them away 111-102.
