Aguinaldo Scores 25 Points on Senior Night

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Pacific University women's basketball team's dropped a contest to the Loggers on Saturday night inside the Stoller Center. Saturday night began with Senior Night festivities honoring Camy Aguinaldo who's 25 points on the night would not be enough as Pacific would fall 62-57.

The Boxers (18-6, 12-3 NWC) shot 20-59 (33.9%) on the night. Pacific found success in the rebounding category with 41 rebounds while 14 of those rebounds came on the offensive glass.

The Loggers (19-4, 12-3 NWC) shot 23-52 (44.2%) from the field in the contest. They were also able to move the ball around the floor while registering 10 assists on the evening.

Camy Aguinaldo (Senior/Honolulu, HI) led the Boxers in Points tonight scoring 25 points in her final home game as a Boxer. Aguinaldo would turn in an incredible offensive performance but also had many plays down the stretch that kept the Boxers in the contest.

Sydney Gray (Junior/Central Point, OR) nearly turned in a double-double performance on the night scoring nine points and collecting 10 rebounds.

How It Happened

Pacific started the game with a block on the defensive end by Rilee Price (Junior/Brea, CA) leading to Brilie Kovaloff (Junior/Honolulu, HI) drilling a three at the other end of the court to open the game. A steal and back-to-back layups by Aguinaldo would help spark a 13-0 run for Pacific to open the contest. The defense helped spark a 20-10 end of the first quarter lead with three steals and two blocks.

The Loggers found began to find success on the offensive end  when they started the second quarter on a 6-0 run. The Boxers were held scoreless over the first four minutes of the quarter before an Aguinaldo three-pointer would find the bottom of the net. Madison Dunlop ( Sophomore/ Palmer, AK) would hit a three to extend the Boxer's lead to 30-17 while the Pacific defense would force the visitors from Tacoma to shot 1-7 over the final six minutes of the opening half

At the half the Boxers held the Loggers to 22 points who shot 36% (9-25) from the floor. The Boxers shot for 39% (12-31) from the field while also converting five shot from downtown. Aguinaldo led the Boxers at the half with 11 points as the teams went to the locker room. 

It was Aguinaldo time opening the second half when buried a three and then a layup on back-to-back possessions.  Kovaloff would convert a layup and draw the foul helping the Boxers build their lead to 39-25. UPS would respond with an 8-0 of their own. The Pacific offense would struggle to get a shot up over this stretch turning the ball over three time. Pacific would lead 43-40 at the end of the third quarter following a finish to the quarter that saw them only convert one of their last seven shots in the quarter.

The Loggers converted back-to-back layups to start the fourth quarter giving them an early 44-43 fourth quarter lead. Gray and Kovaloff would answer with back-to-back threes to put Pacific up by five. After trading buckets, the Loggers would start to pull away scoring five straight points. The Loggers would stay in command the rest of the way on the way to the 62-57 victory.
