Game Recap: Softball |

Winfield, Zanassi Homer; Boxers Swept by Lutes

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- Pacific could not avoid the sweep on the final day of the series, dropping both contests of the doubleheader to Pacific Lutheran. The Boxers fell via the mercy rule in both games.

Game 1

Pacific dropped game one of the day despite rallying for nine hits. The Lutes started off hot, scoring two runs on three hits in their first turn at the plate.

Pacific flexed their muscles in the third when Michelle Winfield (Junior/Beaverton, OR) launched her first home run of the season Carli Zanassi (Freshman/Bothell, WA) followed with a two-run bomb to bring the Boxers within one.

Despite having three extra base hits, the Boxers were not able to take advantage as they stranded six runners on base.

Rylee Patton (Senior/Eastvale, CA) and Ashley Gamble (Freshman/Paia, HI) led the way offensively, each posting a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Game 2

The Lutes jumped out to another early lead in the series finale, pushing five runs across.

The Boxers would strike back in the second, putting up two runs.  The first run was driven in by a Nicole Leadley (Junior/Bothell, WA) single, which brought Gamble around to score.  The second run of the inning was the lone RBI of the game, by Gillian Venditti (Freshman/ Caldwell, ID).

Pacific Lutheran had two five run innings in the game, which would prove to be enough to take the win. Three different Boxer pitchers would pitch in the game, allowing seven earned runs on eleven hits.
