How It Happened
Â
Through the first four minutes and change of the contest, both teams found success on the offensive end. Following a three-point field goal from
Ethan Moss the Boxers held a 12-8 lead. With the host Boxers holding a 22-19 lead with 9:45 remaining in the half, they were able to produce 12 unanswered points to open a 15-point lead. Over the final four minutes of the half the Boxers and Loggers would trade baskets meaning Pacific held a 52-34 lead at the intermission.
Â
Despite trailing by 18 headed into the second half, Puget Sound was not going to pack it up and accept defeat. Every time the Boxers would score a basket through the first ten minutes, the Loggers responded with one of their own in order to keep the pressure on. With Pacific leading 65-50 with 9:19 left on the clock, Puget Sound put together a 21-6 run over the course of just under seven minutes to pull even at 71 apiece. That would be the last time the two teams would be tied as the hosts hit multiple game sealing free throws down the stretch to earn the 83-78 win.
