Boxers Dominate Pioneers

Pacific cruised to the 68-43 win over Lewis & Clark.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Pacific women's basketball cruised to a dominate, 68-43 win over Lewis & Clark Tuesday inside the Stoller Center.
 
The Boxers came out on top by controlling the glass outrebounding the Pioneers, 47-27. Of the 47 rebounds in the contest 17 of them came on the offensive end extending multiple possessions which wore down the already shorthanded Pioneers.
 
Top Performers
  • Brilie Kovaloff scored a team high 15 points which included hitting three shots from behind the arc.
  • Alexis Intong played an important role in the contest shooting an efficient 4-5 from the field and collecting three offensive rebounds.
  • Sydney Gray collected a team high nine rebounds with four extending possessions on the offensive end.

How It Happened
 
The two teams opened the contest with matching possessions. The first possession for each team resulted in a turnover while the second possession for each team was a converted three pointer to open the scoring. Pacific was able to open an 11-5 lead before they piled it on holding the visitors scoreless over the next three minutes to take a 19-7 lead by the time the Pioneers were able to convert on the offensive end. At the end of the quarter, the Boxers led 24-7.
 
It was a quiet first three minutes for both sides in the second quarter as neither team scored in the stretch. Lewis and Clark was able to take the lid off of the basket when they split a pair of free throws at the seven minute mark. By the time the clock hit zero at the end of the second quarter, the Boxers held a 35-14 lead.
 
The third quarter had the Boxers continue to show their dominance as the opened up a 52-21 lead following a Danica Schmidt fastbreak layup. The home team held a 32-point lead as they headed for the final quarter.
 
The hosts continued their strong play in the final quarter as they never allowed the Pioneers to get within 20 points of the lead. Anya Henderson put the final touches on the 68-43 win to earn the Boxers their second straight NWC win.
