But Oglethorpe answered with a 17-0 run and the Boxers never led again, falling 83-64 Friday night at home to open the 2023-24 men's basketball season.
Pacific trailed just 34-30 at halftime. However, the Stormy Petrels extended their lead to double digits, 48-37, with 14:53 remaining in the game. Oglethorpe then stretched its lead to 20 points, 63-43, with 9:28 remaining.
Lucas Winkler had 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead the Boxers.
Zachary Bates added 11 points and eight rebounds.Â
Pacific shot 36.1 percent from the field and 26.1 percent from the 3-point arc in the loss. The Boxers had 18 turnovers.
Perry Robinson posted a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead Oglethorpe.Â
Next, Pacific is back at home inside the Stoller Center Saturday against Evergreen State.Â
