Down 16 in the second half, Pacific battled all the way back to get within two points of Colorado College with 8:56 remaining.
But the Boxers could not get any closer, falling 79-77 Saturday night in the final game of the Ken Schumann Classic.Â
Pacific got off to a fast start, leading 20-11 with 12:50 remaining in the first half. But the Tigers answered with a 26-6 run to take a 37-26 lead with 6:54 remaining.
Trailing 61-47 with 11:52 to go, the Boxers used a 12-0 run to get back in the game. A
Jake Blazona jump shot got Pacific within 61-59 with 8:56 remaining.Â
After Colorado College stretched its lead back to seven points, the Boxers continued to battle and a Blazona 3-pointer got Pacific back within two, 72-70, with 2:28 to go.
But a three-point play extended the Tigers lead to five points with 2:13 remaining. Pacific got within three points twice in the final two minutes but no closer until
Truman Young knocked down a 3 at the buzzer to complete the scoring.
Devin Fortune, who battled foul trouble, finished with 16 points in 19 minutes to lead the Boxers.
Lucas Winkler had 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Blazona recorded a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds to go with five assists and three steals. Young finished with 13 points off the bench.Â
