An 8-0 run to start the second half got Pacific within 13 points of Mary Hardin-Baylor, but the Boxers ultimately couldn't overcome an ice-cold first quarter, falling 58-44 Saturday night in the Ken Schumann Classic.
Pacific, who shot 0-for-12 from the field and 0-for-2 from the free throw line, trailed 18-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Boxers scored their first points when
Lindsay Barden knocked down a 3-pointer 11 seconds into the second period. But Pacific continued to struggle shooting, finishing the quarter 4-for-13 from the field, 1-for-6 from 3 and 2-for-8 from the free throw line.Â
For the game, Pacific made just 8 of its 21 free throw attempts and 2 of 14 3-pointers.
A jump shot in the paint by
Rilee Price got the Boxers within 11 points, 54-43, with 2:57 remaining in the game.
Emily Holsan then went 1-for-2 from the free throw line to cut the deficit to 10 points, but Pacific could not get any closer.
Sydney Gray finished with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals to lead the Boxers.
Brilie Kovaloff had 11 points and two steals.
Pacific was outrebounded 56 to 38.Â
Next, the Boxers travel to Texas on Thanksgiving. Pacific plays Southwestern University on Friday, Nov. 24 and then Concordia on Saturday, Nov. 25.Â
