WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Four different Pacific men's basketball players scored in the double-digits, but it wasn't enough to keep up with Whitman as the Boxers fell 97-85 Friday to open Northwest Conference play.
Lucas Winkler finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals to lead Pacific.
Drew Gumin had 16 points and two rebounds.
Devin Fortune recorded 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Zachary Bates added 11 points and four rebounds.
The Boxers raced out to a 6-0 lead before Whitman answered with a 9-0 run to take a 9-6 advantage.
After Fortune made two free throws to get Pacific within 13-12, the Blues went on a 10-0 run to expand their lead to 23-12 with 10:58 remaining in the first half.
A Bates layup got the Boxers within four points, 30-26, with 7:04 remaining. But Pacific never got any closer as Whitman answered with a 7-0 run.
The Boxers shot just 38.4 percent from the floor while Whitman shot 50.8 percent. The Blues outrebounded Pacific 45 to 30.Â
Next, the Boxers play at Whitworth on Saturday at 6 p.m.Â
