Boxers Split Doubleheader with Bushnell

EUGENE, Ore.- The Pacific University softball team split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Bushnell.
 
The Boxers were able to take the first game by a score of 6-4. In the game they produced the six runs on 13 hits. In game two, the Beacons were able to claim the victory only allowing one Boxer hit in the contest.
 
Top Performers
 

  • Mia Barrozo picked up the win in game one allowing two earned runs in the complete game performance.
  • Nicole Leadley was 3-3 in the first game with three singles.
  • Carli Zanassi was efficient at the plate going 2-4 in game one with a homerun as well as a double.

 
Game One
 
The Boxers had an electrifying start to the game in the top of the first. Carli Zanassi came to the plate with a runner on second and third and was able to drive a pitch over the left field to take an early 3-0 lead. The Boxers would take a 4-0 lead by the end of the first following a Rylie Kihara RBI on a fielder's choice.
 
Bushnell scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the second on an error by the Boxer defense.
 
They added another run in the bottom of the third before the Red and Black would take a 5-2 lead on a groundout the scored the run in the top of the fourth.
 
Bushnell responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to pull within a run.
 
Reiko Flores-Wong produced an RBI single in top of the seventh giving the Boxers an insurance run which led to the 6-4 win.
 
Game Two
 
The Beacons were able to strand two Boxer runners on the basepaths in the top of the first. Despite leaving two runners on base in the bottom half of the inning the Beacons took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice bunt.
 
Bushnell added to their lead in the bottom of the third by scoring three runs on three hits in the inning.
 
Flores-Wong picked up the Boxers only hit of the game in the top of the fourth with double to left field. That led to the Boxers scoring on an RBI from Leadley on a groundball.
 
Bushnell would add four unanswered runs as they pulled away to the 8-1 win over the Boxers.
