Boxers Cruise To Fourth Straight Win

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Pacific women's basketball cruised to their eighth NWC win on Friday night with a 72-49 win over Whitworth.
 
The Boxers was efficient from the floor Friday night shooting 46%. They also were able to create an advantage on the offensive end scoring 20 points off of turnovers.
 
Top Performers
  • Shaade Williams led all scorers with 14 points which also is her season high for the freshman.
  • Marissa Layosa went 6-8 from the field on the way to a career high 14 points.
  • Danica Schmidt collected nine rebounds which all came on the defensive glass.

How It Happened
 
The two teams opened the first 2 minutes of the contest even with the score tied at 4. The Boxers over the next five and a half minutes were able to open up at 14-8 lead following a Lindsey Barden layup in the paint. It would take just over two minutes before either side would score again as each team made free throws to close out the quarter. The Boxers held a 16-9 lead at the conclusion of the opening quarter.
 
At the 7:46 mark left in the second quarter; the Boxers held a 21-12 lead following two converted free throws from Williams. Over the next five minutes, the Boxers would go on a 16-3 run to take a commanding 22-point lead. At the halftime break the host Boxers led, 39-20.
 
The Red and Black continued to show their dominance in the third quarter opening up a 44-24 lead following a Rilee Price layup. The Boxers stretched the lead to 30 with 3:35 remaining in the quarter before Whitworth finished strong over the final 3 minutes, dwindling the lead to 21 at the end of the quarter.
 
Following a converted Pirate basket to start the final quarter, the Boxers never let the visitors get within 20 points of the lead as they coasted to the 72-49 win. This completed the season sweep of the Pirates from Whitworth.

Pacific will look to continue their winning streak to five with a highly anticipated matchup on Saturday against Whitman College. The tipoff is scheduled for 4 P.M. inside the Stoller Center.
