Boxers Drop Season Opening Series to Eastern Oregon

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Pacific University softball team dropped both games in the season opening double header against Eastern Oregon.

In the first game the Boxers were unable to get anything going offensively as Mountaineer pitcher Kay Hoskins threw a complete game no-hitter. The Boxers were able to score three runs in the first three runs but were scoreless from there in game two with the Mountaineers winning 10-3.

Top Performers

  • Rylee Patton was perfect at the plate in game two recording three hits and one RBI.
  • Samantha Petit was the only other Boxer to record two hits in the second game.
  • Lindsey Greenfield recorded three strikeouts in the four innings she was in the circle for the Boxers.

Game One

Game one belonged to the Mountaineers due to a dominant performance on the rubber from Eastern Oregon pitcher Kay Hoskins who threw seven complete innings of no-hit ball while also recording 17 strikeouts.

The Mountaineers opened the scoring in the first with a double off the bat of Hanna Tyree. Her sister tacked on another run in the fourth before Hanna came up again in the fourth and pushed the score to 5-0.

Another run in the fourth would make it 6-0 which the visitors followed up by scoring four more runs on the way to the 10-0 win.

Game Two

The Boxers had something to prove after being no-hit in the first game and came out on the offensive end ready to prove it. They were able to string together four consecutive base runners which earned them the first run of the game with the Rylee Patton RBI single. The Boxers were able to scratch across another run in the first when Carli Zanassi reached on a fielder's choice which plated Rylie Kihara.

Samantha Madsen would give the Boxers a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single that scored Patton from second.

Eastern Oregon would score nine unanswered runs over the next four innings to take the 10-3 win over the Boxers.
