VANCOUVER, Wash.- The Pioneer Invite was a great success for the Boxers as the varsity 8 claimed 4th place in the Varsity 8, beating University of Oregon for the first time ever and keeping in contact with Lewis & Clark and Puget Sound for the first 1000m.
Conditions: Cold (mid 30's up to low 40's), flat water and light headwind for first couple races, building to ~10mph cross-head by the last races. Some light to moderate chop on the first half of the course for later races, flattening out to the finish. Races run on fully buoyed course, but with floating starts, some races started short of or past the start line due to alignment issues.
The Varsity 4, finishing with a time of 9:21.3, and although they came in last, they rowed a really nice piece.
The Novice 4, finishing with a time of 10:15.3, came in second, beating University of Oregon in a three-boat race.
The double finished in 10:08.1 and raced for the first time In this lineup.
"It was a great day, with better conditions and what we have been dealing with all week, and it was extra special because President Dr. Jenny Coyle is able to come out and support the Boxers. We have another month of practice before our last races of the year, and I think we could make some great gains in that time," says head coach Charlotte Copp.
