Boxers Split Series With Puget Sound

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Pacific University softball team split their weekend series with Puget Sound University, the Boxers earned their wins in game one and four.

Top Performers 

  • Lindsey Greenfield earned her second win of the season allowing only three hits in her seven innings pitched in game four.
  • Rylee Patton tallied 3 RBI's on the weekend, leading the Boxers in RBIs this season. 
  • Sydney Rusin went 5 for 8 on Sunday and Samantha Madsen went 2 for 3 in game four. 


Game 1

After two scoreless innings, the Boxers showcased a strong third inning scoring three runs to take the 3-0 lead. Kihara started things off with a single followed by back-to-back hits from Petitt and Knepp who reached base off Logger errors. A walk for Carter pushed the first run of the game across the plate before a walk and sacrifice fly plated the final two runs of the inning. 

In the bottom half of the fifth Carter's double put her in perfect scoring position, and a single from Madsen drove Carter in for the final run of the game. Mia Barrozo picked up her third win of the season, holding the Loggers to just one run in a complete-game effort. 

Game 2

Pacific got things started in game two of the series. Petitt stole two bases following her single before a hit for Madsen brought Petitt home to take the 1-0 lead. 

The visiting Loggers put up a total of seven runs in the fourth and fifth inning to take the 7-1 lead. The Red and Black looked to find their way back into the game plating one run in the fifth but the visitors added two more to the scoreboard to solidify their 9-2 victory. 

Game 3

Puget Sound scored first on a 2 RBI double and double in the top of the second. The Loggers kept the bats going in the fourth scoring two more runs to take the 5-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the fourth, Patton hit an RBI double to drive home Rusin to get the Boxers on the board. With two outs Uetake took advantage of a Logger error to reach first base and plate Patton. The Boxers tallied five hits in their big seventh-inning rally to take the game into extra innings. 

With two on base, Roddey hit an RBI double up the left side to bring home Pettit. Knepp took advantage of a Logger error during the next at-bat to bring the game within one. With runners, on the corners, Patton smashed an RBI double to drive home Jeffries for the tying run. 

Puget Sound plated three runs in the top half of the eighth to regain their lead, 8-5 on 2 RBI singles and a double but the Boxers kept up their fight in the bottom half of the inning. Big hits from Uetake, Zanassi, and Petitt got the rally going. With two outs and runners on second and third a hit from Madsen pushed two more runs across for the Boxers to re-tie up the game 8-8. 

The Loggers added three more runs to the scoreboard in the ninth and held the Boxers to just one run to take the win in game three, 11-9.

Game 4

The first three innings were scoreless but the Loggers struck first with one run in the top of the fourth and one more in the sixth. Lindsey Greenfield held the visitors to just three hits and retired four batters in her seven innings pitched to help secure the comeback victory for the Boxers.  

The Boxers offense came to life in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring four runs to take the 4-2 lead. With two outs, collective hits from Patton, Madsen, and Rusin got the first run on the board for the Red and Black. A hit from Leadley got the bases loaded before Ishikawa stepped up to the plate to hit a 3 RBI shot to center field to clear the bases. The Boxers held the Loggers to no hits in their final at-bat to earn the 4-2 victory.

The Boxers will travel to Tacoma, WA to take on Pacific Lutheran University on April 8th-9th for a four game series against the Lutes. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
