A night after slaying the top team in the Northwest Conference, Pacific could not take down second-place Whitman, falling 76-66 Saturday night inside the Stoller Center.
After falling behind 26-18 with 8:52 remaining in the first half, the Boxers went on a 7-0 run to get within 26-25 with 4:55 to go. However, Whitman closed the first half on an 11-2 run to take a 10-point lead into halftime.
Pacific answered with a 12-0 run early in the second half to tie the game at 43-43 with 12:31 remaining. But again the Blues responded to take a 62-48 lead with 6:35 to go.Â
Devin Fortune finished with 18 points and two rebounds to lead the Boxers.
Lucas Winkler had 16 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Jake Blazona added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Pacific struggled from behind the 3-point arc, making just 3 of 22 attempts. Whitman went 19-for-23 from the free throw line while the Boxers made 5 of its 8 attempts.Â
Next, Pacific (10-9, 4-6) hosts George Fox on Friday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. inside the Stoller Center.Â
