Pacific earned its first Northwest Conference victory of the season Friday night, defeating Puget Sound 77-71 inside the Stoller Center.
Trailing 43-39 with 15:44 remaining in the game,
Devin Fortune knocked down a 3-pointer to get the Boxers within a point. A jumper by
Kenji Toyama then gave Pacific the lead, 44-43, with 14:54 remaining and the Boxers never trailed again.
After a
Drew Gumin 3-pointer extended Pacific's lead to 11 points, 62-51, with 7:41 remaining, the Loggers battled back to tie the game at 66-66 with 3:22 to go. Tied at 68-68,
Lucas Winkler made a jump shot to put the Boxers back on top with 1:16 remaining.
With Pacific holding on to a 3-point lead, 72-69, with 40 seconds remaining, a steal by
Lucas Gray followed by a putback by
Gabe Abbott finished off Puget Sound.Â
Winkler then went 3-for-4 from the free throw line to secure the victory. Winkler finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Jake Blazona had 17 points and six rebounds.
Devin Fortune posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out with 5:21 remaining. Gumin added 13 points.
The Boxers shot 47.8 percent from the 3-point arc, making 11 of 23 attempts.Â
