NEWBERG -- Pacific could not overcome a slow start.
Constantly playing from behind, the Boxers kept rallying but could never take the upper hand Saturday night in an 85-79 loss at George Fox.
After the Bruins jumped out to a 14-4 lead with 13:29 remaining in the first half, Pacific got within two points, 17-15, on a
Drew Gumin layup with 6:31 left to play. However, George Fox extended its lead to nine points, 38-29, at halftime.
Down 10 points, 81-71, with 2:02 remaining in the game, the Boxers went on an 8-0 run to get within 81-79 with 1:01 to go.
However, Pacific did not score again while the Bruins went 4-for-6 from the free throw line to secure the Northwest Conference victory.Â
Jake Blazona finished with 14 points, three rebounds and three assists to lead the Boxers.
Lucas Winkler had 13 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Devin Fortune added eight points and eight rebounds.
Brenden Lapierre provided nine points and five rebounds off the bench.
Next, Pacific hosts Willamette on Tuesday at 8 p.m. inside the Stoller Center.
