NEWBERG -- Pacific got off to a fast start and held on to win 69-66 Saturday afternoon at George Fox.
The Boxers raced out to a 14-3 advantage and led 22-9 at the end of the first quarter. Pacific didn't score its first points of the second quarter until 3:50 remaining, allowing the Bruins to get within 22-17.
Brilie Kovaloff ending the scoring draught with a jump shot in the paint. Kovaloff then added a 3-pointer to stretch Pacific's lead back to double-digits, 27-17, with 3:11 remaining.
The Boxers led by 11 points, 46-35, entering the fourth period. But George Fox outscored Pacific 17-5 to open the quarter and take a 52-51 lead with 4:20 remaining.
The Boxers answered with a 6-0 run to take the lead for good. The Bruins got within one point three times.
Kovaloff, who finished with 25 points, seven rebounds and two assists, went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final six seconds to secure the victory.Â
Rilee Price added 10 points, three rebounds and two steals.
Next, Pacific hosts Willamette on Tuesday at 6 p.m. inside the Stoller Center.Â
