Winners of five its last six games, including three in a row, Pacific entered Friday's matchup with a lot of momentum.
But Pacific Lutheran showed just how tough every game can be in the Northwest Conference, knocking off the Boxers 73-65 inside the Stoller Center.
Pacific opened the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 44-35 lead with 15:26 remaining in the game. However, the Lutes answered with a 13-2 run to take a 48-46 with 9:51 left to play.
After
Jake Blazona knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Boxers a 51-50 lead with 8:21 remaining, Pacific Lutheran went on an 8-0 run to take the lead for good. Pacific got within three points of the Lutes three seperate times but couldn't get any closer.
Pacific Lutheran went 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 1:40 to secure the win. The Lutes made 22 of 29 free throws in the game while Pacific made 4 of only 8 attempts.
Truman Young had 16 points to lead the Boxers in scoring.
Lucas Winkler finished with 15 points, five rebounds and six assists. Blazona added 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Pacific dropped to 13-10 overall and 7-7 in the Northwest Conference with the loss.
Next, Pacific hosts Lewis & Clark on Friday, Feb. 16 and will then celebrate senior night Saturday, Feb. 17 against Linfield.
