Pacific finished its four-game Northwest Conference home series against Lewis & Clark on a high note Sunday as
Chloe Knepp delivered a go-ahead three-run homer to left field to lead the Boxers to a come-from-behind 7-5 victory to avoid the sweep.
The loss was the Pioneers first in conference play after starting 7-0. Lewis & Clark won the first three games against the Boxers 3-1, 12-6 and 9-0.Â
Pacific snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Pioneers with the game four win.Â
Game 1
The Boxers gave Lewis & Clark a late scare in game one Saturday. Down 3-0, Knepp hit an RBI double to left field to get Pacific on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Kayla Kodani then singled to left field to bring the go-ahead run to the plate.Â
However, Lewis & Clark pitcher Sofia Garcia retired three straight Pacific hitters to earn the save and hold on to the victory for the Pioneers.Â
Pitching in relief for the Boxers, junior Haleigh Colfet shut out Lewis & Clark over five innings, allowing just two hits.Â
Game 2
Pacific scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to get within 6-3 of the Pioneers. However, Lewis & Clark answered with three runs in the top of the fifth, two in the sixth and one more run in the seventh to put away the Boxers.
The Pioneers finished the game with 17 hits.
Kaiya Tom was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Pacific at the plate. Knepp was 1-for-3 with two more RBIs.
Michelle Winfield went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and scored two runs.Â
Game 3
Pacific's offense could not get anything going Sunday morning, finishing game three with just two hits over five innings.
Lewis & Clark scored five runs in the third inning and added four more in the fifth to run-rule the Boxers.
Game 4
Trailing 4-0, Pacific's offense finally woke up in the bottom of the third inning, scoring two runs on back-to-back RBI doubles by
Kimberly Ray and
Carli Zanassi.
Down 5-2, the Boxers exploded for four runs in the fifth inning. Zanassi singled to score
Rylie Kihara. Knepp's home run then drove in
Ryley Vickroy and Ray.Â
Winfield walked and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to extend Pacific's lead.
Ray had two doubles at the plate in the victory.
In the circle, freshman
Abby Surowiec held the Pioneers to three hits and one run over five innings to earn the win.
Next, Pacific plays at George Fox on Saturday, Apri 6.Â
