MCMINNVILLE -- Pacific took undefeated Linfield into extra innings.
But the Boxers could not pull off the upset, falling 3-2 in eight innings Sunday to the No. 3 ranked softball team in the country.
Pinch runner
Ashley Ballew scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2.Â
Linfield scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a walk-off single to left field.
Freshman
Karlie Espinoza pitched the entire game for the Boxers, allowing 10 hits and three runs.Â
Carli Zannasi drove in
Michelle Winfield on an RBI single in the top of the first inning to give Pacific a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats went 4-0 against the Boxers on Saturday and Sunday to improve to 28-0 overall and 16-0 in the Northwest Conference.
Game 1
Espinoza also went the distance in game one, allowing six hits and three runs over six innings to keep Pacific in the game. But the Boxers could only muster two hits in a 3-0 loss.Â
Chloe Knepp was 1-for-3 with a double.Â
Linfield took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a home run to center field and then added another run in the second inning.Â
Game 2
The Wildcats scored five runs in the second inning to take control of game two.
Pacific had three hits and four errors in a 10-0 loss.Â
Kayla Kodani and
Kaiya Tom were both 1-for-2 with a double.Â
Game 3
Linfield raced out to another quick lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first on its way to a 10-1 win in five innings.
Kodani scored on a
Ryley Vickroy single to left field in the top of the fifth for the Boxers only run of the game.
Next, Pacific hosts Pacific Lutheran on April 20-21 in Forest Grove.Â
