Boxers lose twice to Pacific Lutheran, but offense gets rolling in game two

Pacific scored six runs on eleven hits in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader after being no-hit in game one.

But Pacific Lutheran's offense did just enough to win both games, 5-0 and 7-6.

Game 1

Haleigh Colfelt relieved Karlie Espinoza in the circle after two innings with the Lutes up 5-0.

Colfelt held the Lutes scoreless in her five innings pitched, giving up three hits and chalking up three strikeouts.

Rachael Rhinehart struck out seven Boxers on her way to a no-hitter for Pacific Lutheran.

Pacific's Carli Zanassi and Kimberly Ray each walked twice in the loss.

Game 2

Pacific Lutheran jumped out to a 6-0 lead against starter Abby Surowiec and first reliever Amanda Jeffries. Kiara Baba gave the Boxers a great relief outing, grabbing four strikeouts in five innings while giving up one run on four hits.

Kaiya Tom drove in the Boxers first run of the game, scoring Chloe Knepp from third in the bottom of the second. The Boxers went on to score two more runs in the inning.

Knepp hit a two-run shot in the fifth to cut the lead to one before Kayla Kodani scored on another Tom RBI to tie the game at 6-6.

The Lutes took advantage of a Pacific error to score the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning.

Knepp went 3-for-4 with a single, double, home run, and two RBIs. Tom ended up 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBIs.

The Boxers drop to 3-15 in Northwest Conference play after Saturday's games. They will be back to finish off the four-game series against Pacific Lutheran starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
