Lucas Winkler found a wide-open
Zachary Bates under the basket on an in-bounds play to tie Whitman with 17 seconds remaining.
But the Blues scored the game-winning jump shot with 2 seconds left to play to escape Forest Grove with a 73-71 victory Friday and remain undefeated (5-0) in the Northwest Conference.
With leading scorer
Devin Fortune out with a concussion, Pacific got off to a fast start, racing out to a 16-5 lead.
But Whitman took a 44-42 lead with 12:55 remaining and led until Winkler knocked down a 3-pointer with 7:08 left to play to put the Boxers on top 57-56.
After seven more lead changes, back-to-back 3-pointers by
Anthony Hrboka and
Jake Blazona gave Pacific a 69-67 advantage with 2:10 to go. But the Blues outscored Pacific 6-2 the rest of the way to secure the win.
Blazona finished with 15 points, three rebounds and three assists to lead the Boxers. Winkler had 14 points, eight assists and three steals.
Bates added 14 points and
Joel Meske posted 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks in the loss.
Pacific shot 54.4 percent from the field but made just 5 of 17 3-pointers.
