Pacific suffers déjà vu loss to Whitworth

For the second straight game, Pacific jumped out to an early double-digit lead. But again the Boxers could not hold on to it, falling to visiting Whitworth 82-74 Saturday afternoon in the Stoller Center.

Pacific outscored the Pirates 17-2 in the first six-plus minutes. But Whitworth cut the deficit to four points in the first half and trailed by six, 41-35, at halftime.

The Pirates tied the game at 54-54 with 13:43 remaining in the second half and then took their first lead, 56-54, with 13:18 to go.

After an Anthony Hrboka 3-pointer put the Boxers back on top 59-58 with 9:50 remaining, Whitworth grabbed the lead for good with 9:40 left to play.

Pacific senior Lucas Winkler led all-scorers with 22 points, five rebounds and three assists. Drew Gumin had 13 points and three rebounds. Joel Meske added 12 points and six rebounds.
