Pacific tops Whitworth to end losing streak

Behind 17 points from senior Emily Holsan, the Pacific women's basketball team defeated Whitworth 66-59 Saturday night at home.

Tied 10-10, the Boxers took the lead on a Sydney Esperanza layup with 1:57 remaining in the first period and never trailed again.

The Pirates tied the contest at 28-28 and then again at 30-30. 

After Pacific extended its lead to 10 points, 42-32, with 7:57 remaining in the third period, Whitworth responded with a 9-0 run to get within 42-41 with 3:11 to go.

But Pacific junior Shaade Williams knocked down a 3-pointer to end the Pirates run and the Boxers extended their lead to 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Holsan added five rebounds, three assists and three steals in the victory. Ava Cook had 11 points and eight rebounds. 

Pacific went 14-for-16 from the free throw line to improve to 2-4 in the Northwest Conference.

Next: The Boxers host Willamette on Friday. Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. inside the Stoller Center.
