With 5 seconds remaining in overtime, the Pacific men's basketball team got exactly what it wanted –
Lucas Gray at the free throw line with a chance to ice the game.
The Pacific senior made both shots as the Boxers defeated Concordia Chicago 81-76 Saturday night in the final game of the Ken Schumann Classic.
Gray finished with 20 points and five rebounds, including a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Junior
Anthony Hrboka led all scorers with 25 points, three rebounds and three assists. Junior
Ryder Mackay added 14 points and nine rebounds, while junior
Max Vacco was just two points shy of a triple-double, filling up the stat sheet with eight points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and six steals.
In a game that had seven ties and 16 lead changes, Pacific shot 77.8 percent (14-18) from the free throw line, while the Cougars shot just 54.5 percent (12-22) from the charity stripe.
Gray nearly put Concordia Chicago away in regulation by knocking down two free throws to give the Boxers a 71-69 lead with 4 seconds remaining. However, the Cougars were fouled shooting a 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds to go and went 2-for-3 from the line to send the game into overtime.
Trailing 74-71 in the extra period, Hrboka hit back-to-back jump shots in less than a minute to give Pacific the lead for good with 2:56 left to play.
Next: The Boxers (2-4) host Northwest Indian College on Friday, Nov. 28 at 3 p.m.
