The Pacific women's basketball team twice got within six points of visiting Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the second half. But the Boxers ultimately could not pull off the upset, falling 51-39 Saturday afternoon inside the Stoller Center.
The Titans, undefeated and ranked No. 4 in the WBCA coaches poll, never trailed.
After falling behind 27-16 at halftime, Pacific got within 32-26 on a
Shaade Williams layup with 4:37 remaining in the third period.
Sydney Esperanza then knocked down two free throws to get back within six points with 3:36 to go before Oshkosh stretched its lead to double digits by the end of the quarter.
The Titans, who reached the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament last season, took their biggest lead, 51-36, on a layup with 5 seconds remaining before Pacific's
Lindsay Barden made a 3-pointer at the buzzer to complete the scoring.
Pacific freshman
Karina Franco finished with eight points, six rebounds and three assists. Esperanza added eight points and five rebounds.
Both teams struggled shooting. The Boxers shot 33.3 percent from the field, compared to 35.5 by Oshkosh, who made just 1 of 11 3-pointers.
The Titans scored 38 of their 51 points in the paint.
Next: Pacific travels to Atlanta to take on Oglethorpe University on Monday, Dec. 15.
