With its offense in a rut, Pacific's pitching staff carried the Boxers to 2-1 and 4-3 victories over Whitworth Saturday afternoon.
Game 1
After Pacific senior
Haleigh Colfelt held the Pirates to one hit and one unearned run over five innings to earn the win, sophomore
Kiara Baba shut out Whitworth over the final two innings to record the save.Â
Kayla Kodani scored the tying run on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the first inning. Senior
Ashley Ballew-McPherson then tripled to lead off the bottom of the third and scored the winning run on a
Ellie Ishikawa infield single.
With the win, Pacific snapped a 12-game losing streak dating back to April 12.Â
Game 2
Pacific's offense woke up with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.Â
Trailing 1-0,
Kaimalino Ingram recorded the Boxers first hit of game two on a single to left field to lead off the frame.Â
Chloe Knepp then drove in pinch runners
Ryanne Yoshimura and
Ryley Vickroy to put Pacific on top 2-1.
Addie MacPherson added an inside the park home run to stretch the Boxers lead to 4-1.
Pacific starting pitcher
Abby Surowiec, who held the Pirates to two runs over six innings, got the first out of the seventh before being pulled with a runner on first base. With Whitworth runners at first and third base and the Boxers holding on to a 4-3 lead, Surowiec re-entered the game and got a ground ball to shortstop for a game-ending double play.
Pacific improved to 7-19 in the Northwest Conference with the two wins.
Next: The Boxers wrap up the 2025 season and celebrate senior day on Sunday with two more games against Whitworth.Â
