TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific men's basketball team continues to play close, down to the wire games in the Northwest Conference. The Boxers are just still figuring out how to win them.
The latest setback came Saturday in a 75-72 loss at Puget Sound in a game that featured seven ties and three lead changes.
Pacific, which never trailed in the first half, went into halftime with a narrow 32-29 advantage. The Loggers took its first lead, 35-34, with 19:04 remaining. Puget Sound controlled much of the second half, leading by 11 points, 68-57, with 4:35 to go. But the Boxers responded with an 8-0 run to get within 68-65 with 1:57 remaining.
After
Lucas Gray made two free throws to tie the game at 70-70,
Romyn Johnson knocked down two more to put Pacific ahead 72-70 with 28 seconds to go. However, Puget Sound made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 14 seconds left and then two free throws with 2 seconds remaining.
Gray finished with 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Brody Baumgartner posted a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out with 5:20 left in the game.
Max Vacco added 13 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Pacific's four conference losses have come by an average of 3.5 points. The Boxers have led at halftime in two of the games.
