The Pacific men's basketball team got career games from seniors
Lucas Gray and
Brody Baumgartner. But the Boxers suffered another heartbreaking Northwest Conference loss Saturday night, falling 75-74 to Willamette.
Gray finished with a career-high 22 points to lead all-scorers. He also had six assists and three steals. Baumgartner recorded a double-double of 13 points and a career-best 15 rebounds.
The Boxers trailed for much of the night, including by nine points, 42-33, at halftime. But a Gray 3-pointer got Pacific within a point, 71-70, with 2:56 remaining. A Baumgartner jump shot then tied the game at 72-72 with 1:56 left to play.
After a Willamette 3-point play, Baumgartner made a another jump shot to get the Boxers within 75-74 with 53 seconds to go. Pacific made a stop on defense to get a chance at the last shot with 20 seconds remaining.
Anthony Hrboka's attempt bounced off the rim. Baumgartner grabbed the offensive rebound with 3 seconds to go but didn't get a shot off before the final buzzer sounded.
Hrboka finished with 17 points, six rebounds and five steals in the loss.
Pacific dropped to 2-6 in conference play. The six losses have come by a combined 19 points.
