SPOKANE, Wash. – Down 12 points at halftime, the Pacific men's basketball team stormed back to tie Whitworth with 1:49 remaining.
But the Pirates scored at the buzzer to escape with an 81-79 Northwest Conference victory Saturday night.
After the Boxers jumped out to a 6-0 lead, Whitworth took an 11-10 advantage on a 3-pointer with 12:25 remaining in the first half.
Tied at 11-11, the Pirates knocked down another 3-pointer with 11:53 to go and led until Pacific junior
Max Vacco tied the game at 75-75 with 1:49 remaining in the game.
The Boxers never led in the second half but tied the game two more times on an
Anthony Hrboka jump shot with 1:10 to go and then a Hrboka layup off a Vacco steal with 7 seconds remaining.
Hrboka, who is averaging 23.3 points per game, recorded his fourth 30-point scoring performance of the season.
Ryder Mackay had 18 points and six rebounds in the loss.
The Boxers have not won in Spokane since 2017.
