Less than 24 hours after giving Whitworth its first Northwest Conference loss, the Pacific men's basketball team took down Whitman 67-60 Saturday to defeat the two Eastern Washington schools back-to-back for the first time since 2008.
The Boxers trailed just once against Whitman, 3-0, but scored the next seven points to take a 7-3 lead with 17:40 remaining in the first half. Pacific took its largest lead of 14 points, 49-35, on an
Anthony Hrboka layup with 12:41 remaining in the game.Â
But the Blues did not go away quietly, responding with a 15-2 run to get within a point at 51-50 with 7:06 to go. After the Boxers expanded their lead back to double digits, 63-53, with 2:03 remaining, Whitman scored seven straight points to get within a single possession with 32 seconds to go. However,
Brody Baumgartner made a layup and
Lucas Gray knocked down two game-clinching free throws to put away the Blues.
Baumgartner recorded a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds. Hrboka and Gray each had 18 points to lead the Boxers to their third straight win.Â
Next: Pacific plays at Lewis & Clark on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m.Â
